Getting Pregnant with PCOS

Have you ever imagined yourself getting married yet not having kids? A close friend of my aunt once told me that she will no longer marry because she will no longer bear children. She said it will be unfair for her husband. To her, getting pregnant is the most vital reason in getting married. Why get married if you can't bear the fruits of your love. Well, that's her idea and somehow, I understand where she is coming from. She added that taking care of her nieces and nephews may just be what she will do instead of marrying and feel frustrated by not bearing her own kids.

Auntie, as we fondly call her, suffers from Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, or PCOS for short, the most common cause of female infertility, can wreak havoc on a woman’s reproductive system. From the irregular periods and ovulation issues, to the thinning hair, weight gain, acne and excessive hair, PCOS is no fun. Getting pregnant with PCOS can be difficult, but it is definitely possible. Pregnancytips.org suggests that women with PCOS try their best to maintain a healthy weight for the best chance of conceiving. The best way to do that is through healthy diet and exercise. Any weight loss that you can achieve with PCOS will go a long way towards improving your chances of getting pregnant. If lifestyle modifications like diet and exercise changes don’t work, some doctors prescribe a diabetes medication called Metformin to help with insulin resistance. This is considered an “off label” use for this medication, but many doctors think it is a great solution. Just keep in mind that although it can sometimes be harder to get pregnant with PCOS, it is by no means impossible. Women with PCOS just have to try their best to do what they can to improve their fertility in order to boost their chances of getting pregnant.
